  Great Site for McCulloch Literature
Posted by: doug tenney - 05-12-2017, 10:34 AM - Forum: General - Replies (3)

Those of us who are still nostalgic for McBob's excellent online Mac reference library (RIP) will like this site I just came across:
http://www.smallenginediscount.com/GoKartReference.html

The photo of the white Homelite is actually one of Jeff Troy's exquisite karts!

  Save those Clinton's D-35
Posted by: Jim Donovan - 05-12-2017, 09:25 AM - Forum: General - Replies (6)

Thanks to Terry Sullivan I know have a step crank for the D-35 clinton which is a real beautiful crank and was a challenge for making the clutch.  Tried to convince Chris Marchand he should go INBOARD because that was easy to make and I could get down to a 10 tooth sprocket on the 5/8 portion but it would not line up with his rear sprocket.

Terry came through by donating the $10,000 solid g0ld crankshaft that was given to him by Don Thomas (founder of Clinton) when Clinton made its 1,000,000 D-35 chain saw. This just goes to prove how long Terry has been involved with 2 cycle engines and to let Ted know why my clutches are expensive.  It is the security I have to hire to protect these valuable cranks given to me by some of the greatest karters in vintage.

I would show you a picture of the crank but my insurance company warned me it could effect my renewal.  The steps are .787 stepping down to .625 and then stepping down to .500 that small step has the 5/32 woodruff key and then it is threaded 7/16 fine thread.

With that said, I thought I could possibly run for president when Donald's 8 year term is up.

ID help please Hello New to Karting Found basket case go kart
Posted by: Pat Smith - 05-12-2017, 06:49 AM - Forum: General - Replies (3)

[attachment=1341][attachment=1341][attachment=1340][attachment=1340][attachment=1340][[attachment=1340]Hi I always wanted a go kart.   Last yr. looked on craigslist and answered ad.  I found this cool old yard kart.
This one looks like the fun karts my 12 year friends had in the late 60's..    i am tickled to have this simple thing.
I stripped it, cleaned it up, and now it is looking sharp.   Got it going an rigged in December.  I had to get throttle and brakes working and that was a challenge but it ran good.

I came with a 9 cubic inch Tecumseh.  .   I have a briggs 5 hp and a clone for it.  Put on new brakes 6 inch drum and throttle and brake rods.   I used the Azusa drum because it bolted on the hanger and I don't weld.

It came with 5 inch tri-star wheels (still on the rear)

I don't know if I was able to attach pictures.  Please let me know the procedure if my pics didn't attach.

Thank You for your help.

  Another very historic picture

I hope he won't mind me posting this. This is the great Jim Yamane just before his leaving for the Dec. '59 Nassau kart championship, which he won. Another great kart personality, Frank Weir, sent me this picture. I find it amazing how advanced this kart was for those early days. Ted
