HOW DID YOU GET YOUR START IN VINTAGE KARTING
A. karting in general back in the day
or
B. vintage karting now

hi guys,
this is an old subject we haven't visited in many years.
and it's a fun way to get to know both new and old guys.

me,
i got involved in vintage way back when.
first i learned to fix and build bicycles then cars.
then i was building bikes.

so somehow that lead my 9 year old nephew to believe i could rebuild a go kart for him.
probably his father had alot to do with that idea.

anyway i got back from daytona bike week one year and found what was left of a go kart outside my shop with maybe 1/2 a motor.
it had dual engine mounts but was pretty trashed.
also really heavy and strangely built.
i was new to computers and internet but i wanted to know why it had dual mounts maybe was a racer?

long story short it was a sears racer kart first version.
terrible racing kart built out of repurposed lawn mower chassis parts and zero knowledge.
sears wanted to jump in the GoKart Kraze.

it was far gone we ended up finding a good used play kart for the kids.
that would've been the end of it buuuut.

i had started reading about racing karts.
bad move as i tend to get carried away with things.
these were real racing karts and there were some not alot but some pix or SERIOUS DUALS.
i found the original vintage karts web page, rear engine, vka and a few other sites.
i read EVERY PAGE THAT WAS PUBLISHED ON ALL THE SITES.
i asked really stupid questions.
i found my first real kart a mcculloch r1 concession kart.
i meet people with lots of stuff.
i started buying stuff.

THAT WAS  TWENTY YEARS AGO.
Big Grin TWENTY F-ING YEARS. Big Grin
i've had some seriously great times,
Met the best people you can imagine.
some of my best friends came outta this hobby.
i've known, made and lost friends that were in it from the beginning.
back when racing karts were just a new fad.
did some nutty things, bought ALOT of stuff and generally had fun.
wouldn't trade any of those times for anything.

if you're new here expect your life to change a bit.
you're gonna make alot of great friends
you'll need to learn how to be creative explaining new karts to your lady.
aaaand those karts are gonna breed.
you get two then you'll have ten
you'll hunt for things and get great help finding them.
you'll drive the karts (best part)
and I KNOW you'll make alot of new friends.
welcome to our nutty world.
