  Great vapor blasting resource
Posted by: ted johnson - 06-03-2017, 08:28 AM - Forum: Vintage Karting Parts Supply Dealers and Stores : new , used and repops - Replies (8)

I didn't find this one; Pruit Ginsberg turned me onto it. I just last night got the CT wheels back from vapor blast, and they are like new. A perfect as-cast surface, and not a speck of the old paint left on them. The surface is much more like the original castings than it would be had I bead blasted them. Courteous folks to deal with, and a quick turn-around. If you plan to use parts for show, by all means see Sam Bennett, but if they're to be painted, or if you want an engine to look new, but not shiny, this is a good resource.

  I survived sandy hook.
Posted by: tom dandes - 06-02-2017, 02:29 PM - Forum: General - Replies (27)

Sandy Hook was a blast and the wife and myself met a lot of really nice people. But I did learn a few hard lessons while I was there.

1. I brought a knife to a gun fight. I ran straight axle sidewinder and was the only one. So I ended up in the 6.1 sidewinder. It is amazing what a few years make in kart development when it come to handling. I will bring a different kart next time.

2. Lock washers and lock tight are not my friends.  Something as stupid as a throttle bracket that mounted on the carb at the diaphragm screws would come loose after a few laps. No matter what I did the screws would back out causing the carb to lean out from lack of fuel or it would allow the throttle linkage to go to idle. It leaned twice on me out so bad the flex pipe turned blue from heat. Next time they will be it will be wired.

3. Maxima 927 is great. I got the kart home and pulled the engine apart expecting to see little globules of aluminum stuck to the head , piston  and plug from running so lean. The was not a sign of any damage...great stuff.

4. A five hour trip took 8.5 hours to get back home due to the weather and DC traffic.

Would we do it again? absolutely! I' keeping my fingers crossed that things at work will let me attend the next event.

  Disc brake on D-300
Posted by: Tim Exley - 06-02-2017, 08:40 AM - Forum: General - Replies (9)

OWhat kind of disc brake was used on the Rupp D-300?
Found what I think is a '67 or '68 and curious if the brake would be satisfactory.
Would probably run a Clinton on it.
Thanks

  Thanks Chris Marchand
Posted by: ted johnson - 06-02-2017, 08:12 AM - Forum: General - Replies (7)

Chris Marchand saw that I was looking for a clean GEM open header for my new 610 Bender. He kindly sent me one of his. I got it yesterday, and it's the exact one I wanted, it's NOS, and will polish up better than new. I just want to say a big "Thank you" to Chris. I only have a few pieces to go right now to complete the Photon. The CT wheels George Sellon sent are down at RestoCycle in Tucson getting vapor blasted, and will be back here in a few days for paint. The dual HL top plate for the Tom Kelley manifold is finished by Joel Christians, and the gaskets were beautifully cut by Waterjet Cutting, Inc. in Albuquerque for the YZ reed in the new manifold. Mr. Bonbright has done amazing things with the 610, and it's almost ready. He really IS the Engine Master! I still have to get a new clutch from Jim Donovan, and the Cheng Shin rear tires, but things are progressing! Thanks to all who've helped so much! Now, all I gotta do is cajole Pruit into getting his sister Photon up and going. Ted

  Stellar Event at Thompson Speedway
Posted by: Chris Sahagian - 05-29-2017, 11:01 AM - Forum: General - Replies (3)

All I can say is it was a stellar event at Thompson yesterday. Want to thank Ted Tine for spearheading this. Also want to thank Rick,Eric and all the boys from Long Island for setting up a really cool course out of pylons.Special thanks to Dave L. and my wife for feeding people. Thanks to Bill Mack for letting people drive his karts. The real cool thing about this event was there was no trophy's,no flags,no frills. Just people going out and running 2-8 karts at a time, with NO ISSUES.Rears went out with sidewinders. Mc-49's went out with Mc-101's and Yamahas,Komets. Reminded me of how we used to do things. Sometimes simpler is better. Again a big thanks to all!!!! Warmest Regards;Chris
