  Bushnell Geezer News day 3
Posted by: Blaine Young - 02-04-2017, 06:32 PM - Forum: General - No Replies

2/4/2017

By all traditional standards Butch K. won the Geezer class.  Unfortunately, the event operators gave the DNF participant motorcross points without finishing the first heat.  Butch is such a great guy that he didn't object to this skullduggery.   Bad luck Gary loaned his kart to a young man whose luck had been worse than Gary's so he didn't complete Geezer class.  He claims that his killer B-open and a K299 powered dual will be at Barnesville.

The third heat produced the kind of attrition that I remember from the old days.   The sidewinder 6.1 mac class started with 6 and ended with 3 running karts.   The 6.1 rotary class started with 6 and ended up with 2 running karts.

Surprisingly, the dual rear karts started heat 3 with 4 running and all 4 finished the race.   The C-open class acted like a missile launch with 5 in the first heat, 4 in the second heat, and 3 in the final heat, but all three actually finished.   The winner (of all three heats with B-bombs) stopped about 10 feet past the finish line on the last lap.   It sounded expensive.

  Right hand Macs

Need advice on whether Mac chainsaws with the starter on the right side are good candidates for conversion to kart engines. Thanks

  Laping Compound Grades
Posted by: Sterling Brundick - 02-04-2017, 02:10 PM - Forum: motor how to's - Replies (3)

I understand that there are at least 2 grades of laping compound (a/k/a valve grinding compound).  A course and a fine.  Can someone tell me what these grades are?  I thought I had a tube of each but it turns out they are both the same.  Neither tube actually states the grade.  They are both Permatex.  One tube is older than the other.

can I ask why ..
I think it would be better for person like myself that runs three classes ..three classes 3 races each in one day kinda stressful ..lol ..
plus it might make everyone stay two days witch I think is great .be more karts in kart show too.seems like always a fair amount karters only show up for Saturday race demonstration day ..??

  820/610 copper head gaskets
Posted by: ted johnson - 02-04-2017, 10:23 AM - Forum: West Bend Engines , Chryseler , U.S. Motors - Replies (1)

O.K., here's a JPEG of the 820 head gasket I would like to have Copper Gaskets Unlimited make for the vintage gang. If you fellows are interested, let me know what thicknesses are needed. The company cuts the gaskets on the CNC mill, so no fuzzy edges or burrs like you get from laser or water jet. I have sent the company this JPEG, plus a dimensioned PDF and DXF file that I made. If this works out, I will also do the 610 gasket, and maybe we can get exhaust gaskets and'or stuffer gaskets. Gaskets for Macs, PP's and Homelites as well as round West Bends are easily done, too. Thanks. Ted

Bushnell Geezer News Update day 2
Posted by: Blaine Young - 02-03-2017, 07:41 PM - Forum: General - Replies (1)

2/3/2017

The best news is that Butch K. charged from behind to take first place in the Geezer class first heat.   He defeated Gary W. in the pits when Gary's second motor locked up with excess fuel and his starter nut broke before the race started.  Gary has officially earned a new theme song from the venerable show He Haw.   When you see him just remember that , "if it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all."

Butch stayed in striking distance of the leader for much of the race despite running a basically stock  MC92 against a heavily ported "screaming" Mac.  The leader lost his engine about 2 laps before the end of the heat.   Butch "cruised" to the finish line and his engine decided to stop about 15' past the line.   Butch now leads the class with 400 points to the other competitors zero.   The second heat was delayed until tomorrow.   The first heats took longer than the time allocated for the first and second heat.  The rental karts stormed on to the track about 5:15.  That was the end of real karting.

The most amazing news is that five karts started C-open and four actually finished.   Last year three started and none finished.  We will see what happens tomorrow.

I been in a panic today
Posted by: Billy Hoke - 02-03-2017, 05:18 PM - Forum: General - Replies (2)

A guy in Wilmington NC posted on craigs list today a FREE running kart. He was moving and could not take it. It was a complete early 60's model with a west bend 580. I could not identify it. It had a half moon seat back tank, drum brake, and a front bumper. Steering wheel set kind of low. I tried to get through to him. He said he would remove the post when it was gone. Not there now and i did not get a picture. I have been having a hard time navigating this site but I think I have solved the problem. The guy said he wanted gone quick. I have daughter that lives about 25 miles from where it was that could have picked it up. Didn't make the cut!
