Steve McQueen - Wanted: Dead or Alive
Posted by: Scott Elkes - 02-19-2017, 12:51 PM - Forum: General - No Replies

Wanted: Dead or Alive

Before becoming a major Hollywood movie star with ‘rolling’ rolls such as: “The Great Escape” (motorcycle, 1963), “Bullitt” (1968) and “Le Mans” (1971); the late Steve McQueen became a household name in the television series, “Wanted: Dead or Alive” in the role as a bounty hunter. Ironically, his last film role was playing a bounty hunter in “The Hunter” (1980).

Steve McQueen with co-star Karting World’s Jim Butler in a Drama of the Old West in the Karting World March 1961 issue.
That had to have been a fun day!

Karting World's (March 1961) - Power Products AH-58 Modifications and Review
(Article / Photos by: Jim Butler)
I wanted to get a Power Products AH-58 engine after seeing my friend Betty Rothman's big brother Bob was running his kart, reverberating along the building walls on the school parking lot during one summer. I was running a PP AH-47 or 51 on my kart at the time--started saving for an AH-58.
It was the autumn of 1962, I finally got my AH-58 and running it in the yard a couple of times before winter set in. I loved the power!
When spring of 1963 rolled around, I came across a good deal on a used 1961 Dart A-Bone with a McCulloch Mc-7. On the first kart drive at Crescent Raceway, totally disappointed with the kart, LOVED the Mc-7. I never fired up the AH-58 for immediately I packed up everything (except the Mc-7) and went to one of the kart shops with my dad. We unceremoniously, like all racers, traded my rides... the 61 A-Bone, Simplex kart, AH-51 and AH-58 for a new-used 1963 Dart Grand Prix. I was missing the Simplex/AH-58. However, after mounting on the Mc-7 on the Grand Prix and taking it to the track. All was forgotten, now having a great ride!

Orange Krate Sears Yard Cart from Manco
Posted by: Randy Dacus - 02-18-2017, 02:22 PM - Forum: Yard kart rerstorations - No Replies

Jim Waltz ...restored one of these......here's his search for answers on the DIY cart website :

http://www.diygokarts.com/vb/showthread.php?t=19125

I have a similar Manco brand  "Yardy" .....I was going to make something out of, but since it is not a Race Kart
...sorry to say it sits.....have tried to sell it, but .....yard carts are not worth the money to restore then sell.....great for your kids to use though !

Every now and then I search craigslisting that are local for old "Karts" that have been turned into "Yardys" .

Like this Go Kart 400......for an original early chassis for my Go Kart Collection, but so far I haven't found the right one to bring home for restoration .
