	Vintage Kart Club of America (VKCA) Gary Medley, Two geniuses: Tom Medley and Gary Hartman. Medley sketch of reed-cage design for Macs. I won a couple enduros, as did GH, using this design. Love the Medley technical drawing! So typical of him. Maps on how to get somewhere were equally kool.

HARTMAN BLUE STREAK KART

HARTMAN NUMBERING SYSTEM

Below is some useful information from the VKA website concerning the Hartman numbering system. I would like to credit VKA members Bill Pryor, Larry Brown, Steve O'Hara, Micheal Edick for the information below.

First, locate the part number on one side of the plate that forms the top of the steering hoop.

This is being provided courtesy of Steve Derksen. It has been 36 years since he began the fabrication of the chassis for John Hartman beginning mid 1972 until December of 1984, so these are his best recollections.

The numbers on the enduro chassis - SD= Steve Derksen, first number=month, second number= year. He did all the enduro chassis.
Sprint chassis - numbers were just serialized i.e 1082, 2157 etc. The sprint chassis were mass produced at a production pipe welding facility by just one welder that produced about one chassis a day along with the production welding. The total number produced was about 500 over the years.

The story behind the sprint chassis that have the letter prefix (such as TV17) is that Hartman was contracted to supply 50 karts for the NBC TV show " battle of the network stars " but it was cancelled before the karts were delivered. When all sprint chassis were welded and painted, they returned to the shop where Steve supervised 2 people responsible for the assembly. The enduro chassis were not painted unless requested by the customer.

Hartman produced sprint and enduro chassis from 1973 to 1984.
