why did you remove it?
typically i avoid removing those springs as things can get very exiting when you try to re-install them.
i assumed you know how to do this but just in case.
do not bother to have to pull start handle on the pull string.
you'll never get it to retract tight.
wind spring up install and put pull pully into place with the loose string wrapped tightly around pully.
install nut or retainer screw.
AFTER everything else is installed you'll want to pull the pull string out and connect pull handle.
often you'd want to wind the spring a few turns past (tighter) to preload it i don't recall if that part is done on a mcculloch.
then you fish the end out and secure to the pull handle.
by doing this the string will wind tight onto pully.
if you didn't wind it tight enough to start you'll get some slack leaving the pull handle hanging. only fix is to redo whole process.
working blind here hope that helped.
if it didn't tell us what you've already done and exactly what problem you've encountered.
or be lazy and get another one that's assembled.
