actually the red cheetah is a mid year mk2 imho. while it has the triangular sort of nerf welded in place for the engine mount it still has the small front bumper and the steering is still front steer.
 the full mk2 was created for tall drivers at first. notably a big seller of margays who was too tall for the cheetah was able to have margay custom fit a cheetah with a big front porch. mike birdsell has the complete story but basically the guy sat in the kart and they bent up a front bumper that was alot longer for him. the fab guys flipped the front steer to rear steer to accomadate the new feet and pedal position. the kart was a big hit for taller drivers and margay got so many request for it that they eventually made them all that way. an accidental improvement was by converting to rear steer the kart became a lot easier to drive comparative to the front steer. anyone having driven both a front steer margay and rear steer will tell you that.
