A friend just got a homelite kl 82 kart engine.i know nothing about these.can someone give me some basic info,are they a desirable engine.

Like all Homelites, they were well built, hard to find parts for, and had a small displacement. The class limit is 100cc, or 6.1 cubic inches. The KL82 is 5.01 cubic inches, and as the model No. indicates, 82cc. They are hard to find accessories for, like chain guards and exhaust headers. As I stated, they were of good quality, but about as fast as a stock West Bend 580 or a stock Mac Mc5, and a bit faster than a Clinton E-65. They are much more scarce than the Macs, and the rarity is sort of intriguing. Ted

Steve. I 2nd what Ted said.
On this forum I have a comprehenisve write up on rebuilding Homelites.
82s have cylinders which are the most rare among karts and saws. Keep it for sure and let me known if you need help
