I always wanted to build one of those when I was in high school. They always had an add in the back of all of the outdoor mags and Popular Mechanics too. My parents didn't think too much of the idea!

We had a local Melbourne, FL guy who built several Bensons for other folks. Pop and I had a four cylinder 0-100 Mac that we sold to a Benson builder. I actually got it off the ground maybe two feet, but ran out of courage. He flew the gyro for years afterwards. We bought a 0-15 two cylinder after the Go Kart gang built "the Drone" hart, with the intent of putting it on a kart. We dropped the idea and sold the engine. Happy Thanksgiving, all! TJ

I knew about the target drone engines, but never invested the time to learn much about them.
I seem to recall reading that Navy gunners were also trained using targets that were towed by airplanes having actual pilots. If true, that would be a rather sporty assignment, eh?
Now, getting back to Sterling's link at the top of this thread (the HUM-1): never saw that before. You got me thinking... no more Schuylkill Expressway psychos, no more obnoxious PA Turnpike & bridge tolls... let me go measure the driveway...

Sterling, thanks for the pix from Pima Air and Space Museum. Sis, Bro-in-law and I went a few years ago. I'd seen plenty of B-36's in the air, but one on the ground is a SIGHT to see up close! We need to go back. It's only about 65 miles from here. Ted

McCulloch built an aircraft engine of their own but never put it into production, the TSIR-5190.
