yes and yes
Better if you resurface the gasket.
Use a flat plate and some wet/dry sand paper. I use a tool made from aluminum bar stock with the same OD as the gasket machined to have a step to secure the gasket and drag it across the paper. You can do it by hand with a lot of care to keep relocating your fingers to avoid thin spots but the tool is a much better way to go.

Great question and great follow up response and advise. Outside of reusing the copper head gaskets that seem suitable to do so, is there a source to buy these new or NOS anywhere? I've had no luck finding any for the 101AA, part # 84459. Also, regarding the head bolts, I've read supporting statements for both reusing and not reusing them.

Steve O., with the extensive McCulloch experience and knowledge you have, what is your opinion on reusing the head bolts? Thanks in advance for any insight you can provide and, as always, thanks a million for all the help you post and for sharing your knowledge....

Jeff, if I may ask, are the kart gaskets listed under one of the individual categories on the Cometic website or do orders for them need to be phoned in?? I tried searching for them by the part number on the list you attached, and by searching the separate categories, but I didn't come across them. Thanks again for the info and prompt reply...

I reuse the head bolts over and over until the hex is worn out. They are only torqued to 70 inch pounds so they will never stretch...... unless you lose a rod and the piston tries to blow the head off the motor! LOL
I reuse the copper head gaskets on the 92 and 101 models and always resurface them. On the 92 you have to keep an eye on the overall thickness for two reasons... one is you don't want to let the squish clearance get below .015" and two, the step on the top of the blocks on some 92s is close to the same dimension as the thickness of the gasket so if you keep shaving a thou or two off resurfacing each rebuild the gasket may get to the point where it is not standing up above the edge of the countersink in the top of the block.

(Great thread.  My son picked up a Mc92, so relevant for me now.  I love Jeff Brown's replies.  Always helpful.  No wasted words. Thanks!)
