Avon Historics Day Two
#6
I have to say it:  Anyone who didn't make the trip to Avon this past weekend missed an awesome opportunity.  This was a Second Annual event and my second time in attendance, and I will be sure to make a third trip if Scott and Sam make it happen again.

Along with the beautiful vintage karts and minibikes on display, this event also fosters conversation and camaraderie, as well as time to take your vintage equipment out for display, practice, test and tune, or just to enjoy the drive. My wife, Natalie, was able to attend this year, and she took advantage of the relaxed schedule and some solo track time by driving her '61 A-Bone/MC5 for her first time (and second time, and third time...).  She's a natural, smooth driver, as I expected she would be.  I commented that she stayed on the throttle more than I expected, and she replied, to everyone's delight, that she had to "because it wouldn't go any faster".  And to think that I'm on the fence about a MC6 hop up....

Anyway, the weather cooperated and allowed everyone in attendance to get as much track time as we could handle.  There's already been several metaphors offered for the physical impact of this, but let's just say, "No pain, No gain!" LOL!

This year's event is only two days behind me and, after unpacking the kart equipment and then reluctantly mowing the lawn, I've already had to resort to firing up antique chainsaws in order to scratch my two stroke itch.  Running leftover kart fuel through the mower just doesn't get me where I need to be anymore.  Gotta have the starting rituals and that two stroke crackle!  There are other incredibly fun karting events to attend between now and then, but hopefully the fun continues next year with a Third Annual event, at which time you NEED TO uncover those antique karts, dust off those minibikes, and find the time to join us for a great time at the Historic Kart and Minibike Reunion in Avon!

We had a great day two at the Avon Historics meet.
The day started with a burst of rain early in the morning leaving puddles all over the track but Sam and I had them rolled and blown off by 10:00Am so karts could start their practice. The modern oval guys took the track and gave us a three heat show and the vintage guys ran in between their heats. Once the oval guys finished we had the track to ourselves and everyone got their fill of track time including a couple from Buffalo who brought some beautiful Rupp minibikes to the event.  The skys cleared and the day turned out beautiful in the 70's with no rain.
There were some really nice karts and minibikes with the following show results:

Restored antique kart was won by Natalie Bogerman with her '61 Dart A-Bone with an Mc5
Un-restored historic kart was won by Paul Hunter with his 1962 Blitz with an Mc6
Restored historic kart was won by Tom Ensman with his purple '66 Rupp Chaparral with Mc91
Restored Modified Kart was won by Mark Kauffman (Lumpy) with his Modified King chassy and an Mc91
Unrestored Minibike was won by Susan Ruggiero with a 1971 Rupp Black Widow
Restored Minibike was won by Susan Ruggiero with a 1972 Rupp Roadster 2
Promotor's choice award went to Brian Santee with his 1961 Fox with a modified Clinton A490

Here are some pictures.. Sorry but I messed up Natalie's photo so it didn't come out, I only got her feet....Sorry Natalie

Anyway, everyone had fun and it turned out to be a great event for all who attended as well as for the GVKC.
Thanks to all on behalf of Sam Polito, My self and Al Gutberlet (Track owner)

Here's a picture of Nat, receiving her award:
