RE: do not buy engines from widgcar (ebay seller name) - Richard Stamile - 09-09-2021 being relatively newbe when looking to complete my Kart i inquired on one of his engines he had listing on ebay and was warned to stay far away from anything this guy is selling , poor welding on the fab mounts with was a red flag to me then someone here on the group said he uses cheap piston rings i think made in Greece and some type of made up clutch not much more then flashy yellow paint Thanks for the alert Guys Rich, RE: do not buy engines from widgcar (ebay seller name) - Mark Loraine - 09-09-2021 Not to promote a subject this posting is not needing to cover as its been covered already in detail before is that its not to say saw blocks wouldn’t make a nice clone, just not the one’s WIDGACAR chooses for buggering. An S-44-A McCulloch saw and a D-44 for parts not including the powerhead can make a really nice 87ccc MC10.…..so for those who may read above and be confused that aren’t in the know, just know which saw block to build up and stay away from those 80cc 4.9 cubic Inch blocks: Unless it’s a 640 which is the same block as the MC49 kart engine. RE: do not buy engines from widgcar (ebay seller name) - ted johnson - 09-09-2021 The thing to do is, if you want a saw engine clone, either build it yourself or have someone reliable like Terry Ives or Bill McCornack do it. Make sure the block you choose not only has a good bore and is solid, but also that all the ports are drilled. Seems to this oldie that there are enough "real" kart engines still to be had that we don't need to cobble one up from off the wall parts. The only reason I've ever seen to build a saw block is to have an engine that was never made into a production kart engine. Something like Nils Gustafson's Mc99 machine, or the 100cc Homelite XP1000 I have in the shop. What I'm sayin' is, if you can't build It correctly yourself, or if you don't want to pay one of the reputable builders, either know what DETAILED questions to ask, or don't pay out the bucks for the unknown engine-just because it has a nice paint job. Ted RE: do not buy engines from widgcar (ebay seller name) - Mark Loraine - 09-09-2021 here is a partial list of sellers in his feedback that he buys from: Note that the sellers are unaware of who they are selling to and for what purpose, lets be clear on that. Wonder why I am not on that list of sellers though. https://www.ebay.com/fdbk/feedback_profile/widgacar?filter=feedback_page:RECEIVED_AS_SELLER&_trksid=p2047675.l2560 the link doesnt go to feedback he's left, you have to select the tab in order to see all the seller I D's he has left feedback for. The parts purchased started in Jan 2015, so how many engines has he sold in that time? RE: do not buy engines from widgcar (ebay seller name) - Mark Loraine - 09-15-2021 widgacar.jpg (Size: 44.27 KB / Downloads: 9) Here's another one of his engines being sold out of Illinois. Note the far away pictures posted that will not magnify!! I'd have to guess that was intentional. Also the seller left recent feedback for; wait for it..........Widgacar. https://www.ebay.com/itm/185052635721?hash=item2b15ff2249:g:b4cAAOSwuwphQjZw Update 9/16/21 The day after I emailed for him to include close up's of the motor he posted more after the original first 3. Note the far away pictures posted that will not magnify!! does this clown have a network out there,,or does he own two homes???? I just offered him 10.00 and in the note I said for JUNK.. RE: do not buy engines from widgcar (ebay seller name) - Mark Loraine - 09-19-2021 "There's a sucker born every minute"...................and most of them live. Guy sold it for best offer, presumably for more than Ten bucks. I'm almost certain this secondary seller of the engine showing his Rupp kart referenced in my previous post, bought it from widgacar and found out himself he was had, and pawned it off to the next unsuspecting buyer with a $70 dollar shipping fee the seller paid tax and fvf to eBay on the accepted offer. In the old day anyone on eBay could message the buyer and include a link to the this thread, not no more! This is not the 1st time I've seen one of these Florida engines being sold in other parts of the country, its simply being resold by inexperience karters. "Daves not here" :~( RE: do not buy engines from widgcar (ebay seller name) - Mark Loraine - 12-12-2021 13 engines sold since late sept 2021, https://www.ebay.com/sch/widgacar/m.html?LH_Complete=1&rt=nc&_trksid=p2046732.m1684 Not one person has come here to say they've blocked this buyer in eBay. RE: do not buy engines from widgcar (ebay seller name) - ted johnson - 12-13-2021 As soon as I see a BDC carb on any 80cc engine, I turn the page and keep going. If you want an 80cc engine, find a REAL mac 49 with a smaller carb. If you want a quality steel motor mount, get one from Vince Hughes. Vince is a KNOWN quality builder/seller/driver/all around good guy. http://www.classickartshop.com/products/ He also has other goodies for your Mac or West Bend. Ted |
