RE: Reed cage question - David Luciani - 11-13-2017

Doug,
i was surprised at your question as it seems that you're thinking west bend reeds were only fitted in west bend manifolds.
or maybe i misunderstood your post.
anyway for newbes and anyone else interested.
there were only about 6 early style reed cages made back in the day.
these reeds are found in almost all the aftermarket manifolds .
this was probably because it's alot cheaper to make just the manifold and use a reed block available "off the shelf".
there were some exceptions but the reeds below are the commonly used reeds in almost all the early manifold designs.

west bend triangular style

the go-power 6 reed hexigon style pyramid reed

and
about 4 different homelite style pyramid reeds.
i only found a couple of pix i'll ad whats missing later.
i will post a verbal description for now
theres ones with a tiny pyramid inside the reed block and some without.
theres also a reed block with even reed retainer screws a better design as the angled reed retainer screws don't allow flipping bent reeds

Compared to you guys, I know next to nothing about the old Macs. I chimed in only because I wanted to make sure that Mel's original questions were answered.

doug,

at the rate you keep learning eventually you'll be surprised to learn people consider you knowledgeable.

i'm kinda preoccupoied this week but maybe next week i'll start taking pix of manifolds with a side note or two on them.
i have a fair amount of them and hopefully other will post pix of what they have too.
eventually we can build up a stock of photos id'ing what manifolds fit what!!
