Mac saw intake - Tim Exley - 05-04-2017

I found an old Mac saw that's different form others I've seen. The intake is on the end of the case across from the cylinder.
Does anyone know which model this is and does it have any value? Thanks.

Sounds like the Mac 15 saw model. The carb is fed from bottom of cylinder and has a steel tank that is separate from integral tanks on most of the other models. It has no more value than most of the 4.9 saw motors. It is one of the most common sizes available as a saw. It is a low hp model and least expensive of the standard series saws. Same parts as others but will need some intake and exhaust ports added to produce the power of a comparable kart engine. Plenty of people here have used them for a donor.

Looks similar to this one.

Thanks. The picture looks just like it. Hoped it might be one that would make a good kart engine with minimal changes. I'm curious- could it be run as is for a just a play engine. It should be faster than a Clinton.

Anything is faster than a Clinton. Except for the hot air. Oh sorry no politics here, my bad. Yes its fine for cruising around, even with the existing setup. That saw is basically like first version of the MKc49 junior motor. You can easily find most of the parts cheap enough to get a better intake setup, unless you are keeping the existing gas tank mounted on engine. IIRC that motor produces around 3 hp.
