I got in last night at 11:00pm and 6 hours later I was working on parts sent to me while gone.

Mark G. from Wisconsin sent me some parts on a Flexo/WB combination. They arrived well packed and very clean.

After a quick blast the parts were run for 1.5hrs. The results are amazing. They look just like new with a high amount of reflectivity.

Ted sent some HA anvils to see what I could do with the corrosion.

Karl G. also sent some clean and well packed parts for me to burnish. Keep an eye on the early DXL cover because it's made from Magnesium.

After some blasting and burnishing the results are excellent! The color and luster is spot on.

Back to the DXL cover. Like MC factory stuffers and many Homelite parts, these early DXL covers are magnesium and really can't be burnished. The acidic solution used on aluminum will attack the mag and turn in brown or dark grey. What I end up doing is putting mag parts in with the high pH solution I use to keep my pins from rusting. The best you can expect is to lighten the color with a blast and give some low luster from the burnish.

Here is another set of parts from Larry Hook. They were in great shape inside and out.

After some blasting and burnishing they are show ready. All of the corrosion is gone and have a better than factory finish.

Here are some Rathmann gearboxes which I've never seen before. Larry sent these along with some Hands wheels which are Magnesium.
Remember I can't do anything with magnesium. As great a metal as it is, it even reacts negatively with water. So much of burnishing is chemistry an nothing exits to make it look like the aluminum.
I'll post some pics of some other jobs later.

Stan C. is restoring a 1979 Zip Shadow Sprint. It's pretty hard to find parts for these in the U.S.

Here are some Zip wheel halves and Magnesium 25mm rear hubs. All parts were solvent cleaned to remove the silicone RTV, blasted, threads chased, and then burnished.

Thanks Stan.

Eric A. sent me some parts from California to get burnished. This is the same Eric which makes the gaskets for all of us. He sent me some Homelite reeds to check out and review. I'm gonna post some pics on the big Homelite thread.

Some McCulloch parts and Minibike wheels. Thanks Eric!

It's hard to get the wheels to reflect color because they are high pressure die cast. These turned out nice!

I got some more parts from Mark G yesterday. I use a small toaster oven in the garage to heat parts up to free the bearings. A press is good, but most of these parts just need some heat and light pressure for them to drop out. After that, all of the parts were blasted and burnished.

I know everyone is recovering from racing this weekend. It's been awhile since I posted some work here and figured I'd share some photos of a project I'm working on.
BTW. I'm in Oshkosh all week working the Airshow, so if you Fox Valley guys happen to pop in, look me up.

I picked up an unmolested 87 Margay Lynx AC West of Orlando. It had a PCR PP100 and looked like it had very little time on it.

All these halves were blasted and then burnished. I have to admit, the deeper the halve the slower the pin velocity is toward the inside of the halve. They take quite a while to shine up, whereas the outside of the halve burnishes in 30 minutes.

This PCR was really tight. No shims behind the tight case bearings, low time on the piston, no chain rash.

Here is a before and after blasting to show the color difference. These high quality PCR castings are very reflective and have a great bright white color. The casting porosity is almost zero. My camera doesn't do these justice. I taped the bore so I can stick the piston right back in the cylinder as if it was untouched.

A few other parts I burnished. The Enginetics 1700 calipers and the M/C will get full polishing.
