293A carb
#1
There's an HL293A carb on eBay now, item 313116092244. Are not all 293 series carbs Hartman, and all drilled for alcohol? If so, might this be a good buy for one of our gang? The 293A's were always some of the best carbs going. I'm aware that the blueprinted Hartmans had their logo on them, but even the non-blueprinted ones run very well. So far, the price is very low. TJ

Ted   I think the 293a was gas and the 293b alcohol . may 293a is a gas carb. no logo on mine. Jim

I've had several 293A's, all blueprinted Hartmans, all alky. I ran them on my open 101A/A B Limited and my 100cc LMR and Atlas open motors. My bud, Charlie, still has two of my old 293A's on his open Atlas. I will try to add a pic of the Black Widow Charlie got from me. It still has the open Atlas I gave him on board. Ted

The HL 293A is a factory drilled alcohol carburetor. Manufactured by Tillotson for Hartman Engineering. He also waved his magic wand over some them and bored the venturi from 0.875" to 0.980". They are marked on back with the Hartman trademark.

The 293A has a brass high speed check valve in venturi. The HL293B is straight drilled thru the body.

Here you see the HL293A Left is stock. Right is the Hartman 980

This is the HL293B Left stock, right Hartman 980.

This is the signature logo you will see stamped on the Hartman modified carbs.

Yes. The two that are on the Atlas are the fancy ones with the "heart" stamp plus the 980 marking for the venturi size. These are probably as good as any alky HL ever done. They run very well as singles or as duals, and one of my 101's had a PP 58 manifold TIGGED onto the back of the block with a Go Power reed and a third 293A on a hand throttle. It worked very well on the long straights of the Florida Street Race Series. I needed all the straightaway speed I could find against some very fast open BM130's and K99's! If I needed another alky HL, I'd jump on the eBay carb. TJ
