Gearing for Avon
#21
John W.,
your post is asking two very different things of your gearing.
the first speed at the end of the straight can be fixed by re-gearing.
the second can also be fixed by re-gearing.
trouble is one you'd need to add teeth and the other you need to subtract teeth.

from what steve said i'd guess you are being out motored on the straight that's nothing to worry about we ain't racing.
don't get too worried about staying competitive in the historic class.
which some people run fast stuff there's others just putting along.
with your current skill set i'd just leave things alone and learn how to drive the kart better through corners.

something you should be working on if you are bogging on corners with a historic is trying to maintain momentum through the corner.
you do this by using minimal braking but at the same time avoid too much tire scrub (another form of braking or momentum loss).
you need to ba1ance your brake point at the entry to a corner with speed through corner so you kinda flow through.
it's REALLY hard to explain but you'll know it when it happens.

if tyhe hairpin is giving you trouble watch other drivers from the sidelines an see whewre they brake and where they set up to go through the corner.
pick the guy closest to your wt that has skills.
copy as best you can what the driver did and you may improve a bit.

learning to corner smoothly on a sprint track is about everything if you want to get around fast.
