1958 Blackhawk

Regrettably, I failed to note all the source information when I came across this picture where someone wrote "1958." I believe I have not posted this image previously, perhaps waited to verify as correct.

Perhaps, Joe Drabicki and Mike Karels can confirm.

Hey Scott!

Yes, that appears to be a 1958 model Chief. The prototypes were made in 1957. 1958 was the first production year. The 58 and 59 models looked the same but the 58 had the white seat while the 59 had a black seat. 1960 was the same as 59. 1961 they came with the Palmini wheels with the small 1/2" diameter holes, sort of a wheel upgrade, but I am sure you could have still gotten the cheaper stamped steel wheels if on a budget.

The Chief did not change much through the years after 1961 up to 1965. The only notable change being when the IKF and WKA forced manufacturers to go from the 1/2" diameter steering shaft up to the 5/8" diameter steering shaft in 1963. 1966 started the prototypes of the Poison Arrow, which were built in various forms testing and racing from 1966 to 1968. Poison Arrow production started in 1969. My first Blackhawk was a 1969 model VI which I bought in August 1979. I put a Mc93 on it to start my kart racing, which I still own.

Kind Regards,

Joe Drabicki
