operation fix mc10 - David Luciani - 07-07-2018

my mc10 is on the line to be looked at for repairs.
i probably should be going through the spares i have and setting them up on my karts but i miss my little mc10.

hopefully it isn't as bad as i remember when i stuck it two years ago.
i've been so bummed about hurting that motor that it has been a desk queen ever since.

i will try to get pix of the operation as i work on it.
d Cool

Get it going for TBO!
I have some .020 pistons if you need to go that far.
I'll be selling a few 10's soon.

that's nice offer terry ... but your 20 over pistons are about 80 thou to small ..daves big bore stroked 10 uses piston size of a 101..
  lol...

RE: operation fix mc10 - Chris Marchand - 07-08-2018

I have a West Bend 820 piston for Dave, maybe that would work .

RE: operation fix mc10 - ted johnson - 07-08-2018

I saw an old tractor piston at my auto mechanic's place, about a 6" bore.... TJ

6.525"
My ring compressor only went to 6" so I had to improvise.

very funny guys.
my piston is way oversized that's the way i got ity.
originally i was trading this motor for original mcculloch engine bolts. i traded three sets for the complete motor which supposedly had a bad block.
when it arrived it seemed ok except for a minor rib in the low ports.
as the motor was way overbored i decided to 9 port it for giggles.
turned out pretty good.

i was gonna stroke it but scott k. said no when he built it.
am glad i didn't it was plenty fast with 9 porting.

i finally got time today to break down my motor.
originally i had hopes the piston might be usable but no luck it is destroyed.
it kinda looks like the metal just failed from heat kinda weird where it stuck on the back ports a new place for me.

heres some pix of todays operation and a peak at the interior motor work i did.
here's the patient on it's repair tray.

not the best pix but you can see the aluminum all over the lining.it was so badly melted that it's stuck inside the port openings distorting the clean oval.

pix of exhaust porting oppsie i didn't get a great shot.

intake manifold side port work.

a blurry close up oppsie again!

9 port work

other views of aluminum in liner

wasted piston pix

my new toy got it a week ago.tested it on my mc10 aluminum
pretty good results considering i did zero prep work just a quickie buff.

For one MC-10 clone, I used a 2.165 chainsaw piston and it sticks out of the bore a bit, because of the wrist pin height.
Then I used a thick (.125) head gasket to give the piston a little room.
I think it ran pretty good, even tho the port timing is different from stock.
Cleaning it up to sell now
