West bend 820 - Michael Drechnowicz - 11-18-2017

I am looking to purchase an 820 for one of my Karts. I know they went thru several owners since their original inception, including Chrysler, US Marine, etc. Is there any particular year/manufacturer that is better/more durable for a vintage kart?

Thanks,

Michael

any 820 by any manufacturer is fine and legal for vintage karting.
the older ones had a few know issues that have been addressed and can be fixed.
for ease of installation, parts availability and the most recent updated design the standard us 820 is a fine choice right now.
there is very little changed in the engines that is visible externally.

the only rule in any venue anywhere is the newest engines aren't allowed at TBO one event once a year.
and to be honest i think if you don't advertise that you have a new 820 they probably would overlook your "sin".
that is as long as the rest of the kart follows their rules and is era correct.

Cool

Great motor,

Michael, one of Jeff Brown's US820's was tearing it up all year here in the Northeast, on Rodrigo's mildly reworked Broncco kart.  Put it together with Rodrigo's driving and tuning skills, that kart pretty much ran away from the field all year.  All with a single smoothbore HL carb.  Bravo!

We're thinking real hard about one of the 820 kits for next year.
