Homelite KL 100 Kart Engine

Photo's and coments by Louie Figone

Hi Bob,  couple of pictures of my Homelite KL100, Homelite never made a KR100.
I bought this from the original owner that ran it as a direct drive.
I bought a Homelite Zip saw for the recoil so when I restore this engine I will put the recoil on it.
Some parts from the saws are the same, not many but a few.

I plan to resurrect most of my old Homelite Build thread someday. Unfortunately it fell outside the window of the "wayback machine", so putting it together will take some time.
In the meantime, here are some KL100's. Shown first is the one my Dad did over 15 years ago. He chose the faithful restoration route using the correct paint code, fasteners, etc.

The second example is one I did a few years back. I chose to fancy it up a bit. Before anyone asks, the head cover is from a Wiz saw. You can tell from the riveted tab over the clutch.  Wiz saws were LH gear reduction saws.

There are many things which made the 95/100 engines unique:
---2 3/16" single ring piston.
---The rod came from the factory with the phenolic thrust washer only on the cap. Otherwise it's the same rod as the other kart engines.
---1.60' stroke for the 100 and 1.54" for the 95. The crank PTO side is similar to direct drive saws, whereas the FW side is LH configuration.
--New aluminum block and aluminum mount.
--Better flowing 53765 head.
