43 DEGREES, A SHARP WIND, AND OVERCAST.  OUCH!   THOSE OF US WHO TURNED 74 ON THURSDAY AND TWO DNFS ON FRIDAY, DECIDED THAT IT WAS BETTER TO SPEND A WARM DAY IN THE TRUCK WATCHING THE RACES FROM THE END OF THE STRAIGHTAWAY.

THE COLDER TEMPS MADE THE TRACK EVEN SLIPLIER THAN ON FRIDAY.  ANY TWIN THAT GOT TOO EAGER ON THE THROTTLES GOT WHEEL SPIN AND THEN KART SPIN.  MOST CLASSES HAD MULTIPLE SPINS AND TRIPS IN THE GRASS.  THE AIM OF THE MISGUIDED KARTS SEEMED BETTER THAN FRIDAY.  THERE WAS A NOTABLE ABSENCE OF THE NEED FOR RED FLAGS.

A TIP OF SMOKEY'S HAT AND AN UNOFFICIAL SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD GOES TO MY FAVORITE C OPEN HOTSHOE - PAPA NAGEL.  IN TWO DIFFERENT COMBINED CLASSES, HE DID A KEN MILES (THINK FORD V FERRARI).  HE JUMPED OUT (AS USUAL) TO A LARGE LEAD.   THEN HE DROPPED BACK TO RUN WITH THE SLOWER KART FROM THE OTHER CLASS.  IN THE SINGLE MAC CLASSES THEY RAN NECK AND NECK UNTIL THE FINAL TURN WHEN THE OTHER KART BROKE DOWN.  IN C & B OPEN REAR, JERRY'S FLYING 101S AND THE MUCH WEAKER 6.1S WERE VERY CLOSE AT THE FINISH.  NOW IF I CAN JUST CONVINCE MR. NAGEL NOT TO LAP ME TWO OR THREE TIMES EVERY TIME I STUMBLE INTO ONE OF HIS CLASSES, I WILL HAVE MAKE UP AN EVEN HIGHER HONOR.

MACS WERE IN UNCHARACTERISTICALLY SHORT SUPPLY FOR THIS RACE.  SEVERAL CLASSES THAT ARE USUALLY WELL REPRESENTED HAD ONLY ONE OR TWO ENTRIES.

SEAN K ESTABLISHED A TRULY BAD PRECEDENT.  HIS LADY FRIEND FINSHED HIGHER IN HER CLASS IN HER FIRST EVER KART RACE THAN SEAN DID IN HIS.  SHE DIDN'T EVEN BREAK AN ENGINE LIKE SEAN THE ENGINE DESTROYER DID IN PRACTICE.
