I'm assembling a very nice Libberton/Chrysler 610 for Ron Cubel. The standard Libberton piston is pinned downward from the crown, and Mr. Libberton pinned the pistons, or Chrysler pinned them so that Libberton had to notch the back side of the rings to fit over the pin instead of notching them at the end gap. The back side notch weakens the .030 rings too much, and we want to have a new pin installed so that the rings can be notched at the end gap, like on a Mac. The pin will have to be installed so that the end gaps of the rings are at the very small web between the front intake port and the boost port. I installed rod and piston and marked the piston crown with a centerpunch at where the pin needs to go circumferentially, but I did not determine how far back the pin needs to be from the skirt. I need someone who can either remove the existing pin-very hard to do, or go into the ring grooves and grind the pin away, then install a new pin in the better location. Anybody out there willing and capable to do this job? PM me or answer me here. Thanks in advance. Ted Johnson
I'll ask Joel if he thinks he could do it for you. It can't be any more complicated than some of the nascar stuff he does.
Hey, you old buzzard! I miss you and Joel. Vince had a NOS Wiseco thin ring, and he's sending it to Ron. Ron can mill in the boost port feeder holes. Tell Joel thanks for the offer. Very nice of him.
Right now, I'm trying to reproduce West Bend/Chrysler's method of putting the rod needles on paper strips. I've tried paraffin and beeswax, but results were lousy. I got hold of an Ohio wax manufacturer, and he told me to use microcrystalline wax. It's stickier, so the needles should hold together better, and it's flexible at room temp, so the strip of needles should wrap around the crankpin like it should. I was having trouble with the waxes were gluing the paper strips down to my alignment jig, so I bought a sheet of .003 Teflon film. I will put a strip of TFE between jig and paper. If it works, it'll make rod/piston installation easier like it used to be.
I hope you're well. I miss the gang at Fremont. Ted
Ted, Did you get someone to do the piston? I sent Joel a text and he said he could do it. If you need him to, send me a PM with your phone number and I'll get him to call you.
Hey, Stan. Tell Joel thanks. Ron is doing the piston himself. Should make a decent stock-block with the Mac rings and the dual 293 alky carbs. Be good! Ted
Very good! I thought that was what you were saying when you mentioned that Ron was getting a ring from Vince. I'll let Joel know.

I'm finally retiring the end of May, so maybe I'll be able to do a few more events - maybe even make it out to AZ. sometime. Take care and tell Ron & Sue hi for me.
Stan, you and joel are always welcome at P1 In Tucson. Very nice track. Bring a dual 820! I will tell Ron you said Hi! Ted
