I would like to upgrade my US820 with the better rod. Anybody have recommendations on how to and where I can get the parts? I would also like a box muffler for it.

Thanks!
Brad
US Motor Power should have then for sale now, along with the single ring piston.

Thanks Ted!
I was thinking there was another rod supplier for some reason. I have bought some things off of Vince before. So I’ll go ahead with him. Help keep the suppliers going!

Hope you have been doing well!!

Brad
Brad, there was another supplier for 820 stuff, but there were some issues between he and USMP as I was given to understand. I talked with Mr. Steve Brian, and he assured me that the factory can now supply these parts. Another of our newer members, Ted Fursch, has had good success buying parts. Dave Fillman of Fillman Machining has supplied me with a number of West Bend parts as well. Of course, Vince has long been a good supplier, and a good friend to vintage karting. He deserves our support! Ted
Good!
I have an 820 that I bought but has a bit of slap in the rod so I have been concerned about running this engine. So I figured I best get the newer rod and bolts before I regret it. Anything else you can recommend is appreciated!

Brad
Well, the new USMP single ring piston is worth several hundred RPM, and USMP sells it as a combo deal with the good rod. 820's all suffer from a lack of breathing, so any good dual carb manifold is a good idea. It's a major improvement to drill and tap your flywheel for a puller. The old whack and pry method of flywheel removal is brutal. TJ

wow...never realized the WB flywheel was not ready for a puller...but then again,,,I never considered a WB.....LOL

learn something new everyday...

Hey, GW. I don't remember even the old "round" West Bends having puller holes. Adding the 1/4-20 holes has been a standard Bonbright procedure all along. I have two 1" hardwood dowels in the shop that are ground down to fat screwdriver ends so I can pry on "other folk's" flywheels while I whop the nut with a brass hammer. The wood is good so as not to scratch the flywheel rim. West Bend wasn't the only small engine manufacturer to omit the holes.
BTW, Gary, ask Mr. Ives how my 610 runs these days! Not that I can drive any better than I used to... Ted
I've only seen one 610 run really good,,,and it was proved to be an 820.....LOL

but I know yers is quick,,,,,,send to me I'll run fer ya....

Terry tweaked on the carbs and rebuilt the Rev Grip at Tucson. He got it cranking along very well. Mine's actually .010 over, but that's only because when Bonbright built it, the only NOS thin ring piston I had was a +.010 Wiseco. Probably runs good because it has 91 rings in it! TJ
