How would I tell the difference between a 580 & 700 5 port engine? Both have the number "30010" on the PTO side. I see no other numbers.
Thanks in advance.

check bore with magnet.
580's have steel bore 700's have chrome bore.
hope this helps
d Cool
Some 580's made later have a chrome bore as well. If you can reach through the exhaust and measure the bore, the 700 has a 2-1/4" bore, the 580 is smaller-maybe around 2-1/16"? Cant remember the spec for sure. TJ
When I Talked to Frank Moore last week he told me if the old West bends aren't in pretty good shape there is not much he can do other than the normal bearings and seals. Many of the hard parts have dried up. So it goes with Vintage.

Ted, at the time they made the 5 port the 580's were cast iron bore, the chrome bore 580's came much later and only in 3 port versions.
