O.K., How are 260 KSI bolts going to be made anew when we just don't have the numbers to satisfy a manufacturer? These companies couldn't care less about making a few hundred screws, or even a thousand for a specialty group, and I don't know of anyone outside of USMP that wants a large stock of expensive hardware sitting in bins. If USMP would agree to install the 260 KSI bolts in ALL their industrial engines, maybe it'd become economically feasible. The original screws that Dave Bonbright "set up" for the 820's were being made by MS Aerospace. US Motor Power has the remainder of Dave's stock, and decided to raise the price. MS Aerospace decided not to make further quantities of these screws, so unless USMP is getting them made by another outfit, when they're gone, they're gone. ARP never had a hand in the manufacture of the 260 KSI screws that Engine Masters and USMP sells. I'm certainly interested in one more pair of the MS Aerospace 260 KSI screws for a new engine I want to build, and, unless Steve or another of our group is successful in enlisting a fresh manufacturer, and I hope he is, I will be forced to pay USMP's price. I'm not going to risk sawing a rare modified 610 block in half to avoid paying for the best available screws. What has Jeff Brown said about the dilemma? Ted
Guys,

Maybe we need to think out of the box a little. Does anyone know what the availability might be of very high strength 10/32 stud material? A combination of ultra high quality stud material and aerospace quality Jet Nuts or K nuts might be a solution.
Just a thought for you guys to consider.
Steve O'Hara
Steve, we've thought about it. Most of the nuts that're of the quality we'd need have a footprint that would require a washer to go into the rod cap c'bore, and the combined height might necessitate gouging the block/stuffer to clear. Also, unless the nut were internal wrenching like an Allen nut, the socket itself may interfere with the rod cap. Still, it's a thing that might be worth looking into. I don't think MS Aerospace is at all interested in making a fresh small (for them) batch of the Bonbright 260 KSI screws. Ted
How many would we have to buy as a group? I am almost out of screws so I would be interested in X amount as I'm sure other's would be also.
Can't seem to find rod bolts on usmp site.i need some.how much and what do I do,give them a call?
please anyone interested don't try to order anything from manufacturers directly.
it will mess up something that has been being set up for a long time.
the bolt spec needed doesn't exist and will be custom made if this works out.

pricing details are coming in and info will be posted as soon as it's available.
they are not interested in tiny orders.
as it is ordering 1,000 plus may not be big enough.
Cool
Also remember 1000 is only 500 builds.

if they are available that's at least something.
pretty pricey but the reusable part makes that less painful.
problem is even if they have a few it's doubtful they have several hundred.

the real issue is that the rod bolts are becoming scarce.
what alot of people forget is ANY maintenance on a west bend or mcculloch requires removing the rod bolts.
even something as simple as fresh rings is impossible if you don't have usable rod bolts.

without a new supply we are dead in the water.
happily ,we are very close to getting that new supply details will be posted soon.
