Billy, I believe that it'a hunk of iron to ba1ance the magnet on the other side.
What's it from? Just curious.
I think maybe ones a pic up coil and other things a balancer like doug said ..looks like ..sorta modern p/p flywheel .. ??
It is a Tecumseh AH600 flywheel with electronic ignition like the one on my Mark II. The one I inquired about reversing rotation. I will soon post what I learned. I think it is a very easy thing to do.
