We've been running a GK 800 for the last 3 years, love it. Problem is the engine plates aren't level with the axle so every time I mount an engine it's a pain to shim, square, and get the chain tension right. Takes a lot of fartin around. My question is,if I cut off the plates and go with like an Asuza swing mount will it weaken the back end? Let it flex too much? Seems like it should be as stiff as others that use swing mounts. Just thought I'ld ask before I screw up a decent kart. Thanks John
pretty sure ..wont hurt it a bit ...aint that how 1200,s are ..??
but ...might not fix problem ..
I had one axle bearing carrier was way off ..fixed it neither engine threw chain yet ..!!
can ya tell whats twisted if its just the steal welded on mount maybe chop that off and level it to axle ..??
John, the swing mounts will work fine. They are not as stiff as the original GK1200 swing mounts were, but they work O.K. Thy're a bit of a pain to snub to the frame at the front, but you'll figure it out. You have little chain adjustment with the Azusa mounts, so be aware of that. I installed the new mounts on my 1200, as it was missing the mounts when I got it. Ted
John,
I listed my email:
Shoot me a note, and I'll send you some pictures of my GoKart 800 with the plates removed and the Azusa swing mount "fixed", and mounted. The Azusa mount can be made like the vintage Azusa mount.
