I don't know why they have the bit about the the tires. That doe's not apply to us, run whatever tires you want. After the modern karts lat down all that rubber tires don't matter except if you are running too sticky tires it might be too much for your vintage chassis.

Randy, you ran Sportsman last year with your rear engine kart, right? Since you now have a more modern kart that puts you out of it. Since we have such a small number of karts RIGP only lets us have 3 classes so we tied to make them the safest and most fair we could. Sportsman, older karts. Mac , 100cc only and smaller since they are usually the largest group and Open for the faster karts. In VKA events 820's only compete against the 100cc Macs in the Sportsman rear class.

Just signed up for the Grand Prix. i have a 1980 margay expert, west bend 820
I entered the . Vintage - Mac
All 80cc to 100 cc American fan cooled engines. Single engine only. Sidewinder/rear engines OK. Age 18+
.
was this the correct class, ???
thank you
Randy D.

Randy,Up to 100cc, your 820 is 135.
.
TOM.
Yes it is 135 but the vintage open is 100 to 135 foreign engine and the vintage sportsman is vka straight axle and over 60.. i have been to races that allow 820's in the 100 cc class

Any engine in the open class as long as it's vintage. Even in VKA your 1980 kart is too new for most classes except 2 but not for RIGP open.

Vintage Karts
Rules: This is a gentlemen’s race. There will be no weighing and no tech.
Age: Ages 15 and up determined by age on race weekend.
Classes: Three classes have been specified for Vintage karts.
1) A Class: Straight front axle karts, any rear engine kart, Single engine only, MC101 or
WB 820 OK.
2) Mac Class: All fan cooled Mc's, WB,PP, etc.; 80cc to 100cc; Single engine only.
3) Open Class; All foreign engines 100cc 135cc; All dual engine karts.
Weight: NA
Fuel: NA
Tires: Open tire brands and compounds. Class will run Heat Races, LCQs if needed, and Finals on
the same set of tires. All tires must be the same compound. You may NOT change compound after
Heat Races or you will be DQ’d. Tire mold number and/or mold letter designation is a non-tech
item. Tires are NOT part of the registration fee and will NOT be available at the track. In the event
that a tire becomes unsafe outside of normal race wear, it MAY be replaced WITH PRIOR
APPROVAL and supervision of the head tech official/scrutineer. Use of tire warmers is NOT
allowed. Absolutely no modifications or tire treatment is allowed. Any competitor disqualified for
the use of prep will be immediately disqualified from that class and all remaining classes for that
weekend. All results and subsequent penalties are final. There will be no option of having tires
tested at a lab.
Gary, who says we don't race? Looks like a race to me! Besides this year we are racing for the same awards as the modern guys: RIGP flags and rocks. These are highly desirable items. By the way WE are the rules! RIGP doesn't care what we use but the winners in our classes will want their awards so you better be in the right class!
Randy,,agreed....

I personally don't care,,Having a Rock would be great but ,,,again,,I go for the fun of it..

run the correct class,, thats up to you , I know what class I'm in and its correct for the class,,My straight axle sidewinder Hornet with a 100cc mac on it...I guess I wouldn't be very happy running against a 15 year more modern kart with modern tires and a 35cc bigger motor,,,depends on the configuration of the 820 also...what carbs, carbs, what clutch, what exhaust...the 820s run in VKA with small carb, can exhaust and dry clutch...in th sportsman class in VKA

again... I don't care...

my thoughts,,build the kart for the classes offered...push them into more classes and they may do away with Vintage...

Gary
randy's kart as I see it would be fine for the sportsman as I know his mods aren't going to run away with anything. Are we racing? I'm not. I'll run hard but there is a limit. Even with our Duals we can't run with a big foreign rotary single with soft tires so I really don't care what anyone does. Until you try to drive a dual rear on vintage tires around those turns rubber down or not you won't really understand the difference between hard compounds/soft compounds let alone the chassis difference. I do it because it is a fun event and the crowd loves seeing us run. Don't care about what the awards are. We did it when there were none.
Steve,,,

love yer thinking....we are so close on so many things I sometimes wonder if we are related,,,,,we except for the talent thing,,you got all the talent....

yeah we push it , but not to the point of hurting someone,something....

now if I just get a vehicle that will make it that far....

Anybody that is planning on running the Sportsman class want to weigh in on Randy's setup? Engine wise this would probably be the class to run. His chassis is probably not going to make a big difference on this track since it's pretty much wide open anyway.
hey..I have this old baby carriage with hard skinny tires..it has a water cooled Konig on it,,what class would I run...

me, I like to build the kart for a class rather than build a kart and hope there is a class for it....although RIGP does throw a certain wrinkle in that ,,

just bring it,,,,run it....and bring Redds...

Randy built his kart for the new VKA West Bend Sidewinder class which didn't exist when we set up the RIGP classes. Now knowing what he is running on the engine I would tend to agree with Steve on him running the Sportsman class.

A great time at the RIGP. Plenty of time to BS. It will be great to see all you guys!

Randy and Steve: are you guys going to Quincy? I'm on a tight schedule stating with Quincy, next weekend Camden, next weekend RIGP. Good thing I have several karts! Maybe the Gremlins will get tired and not follow me from place to place.
