today when we were flushing engines things got warm but luckily not out of hand. On one of the duals I was kneeling just ahead of the rear tire managing the flush bottle and throttle. Shawn was running the starter. A stand up belt starter. On the first turn or 2 of the engine ( the carb must have had the needle drip fuel) It appeared to have dumped out, who knows how many ounces of fuel (Full cylinder full?), in one big dump on the ground and was instantly on fire. My pant leg was 100* RIGHT NOW and it burned all the hair off Shawn's arm. No real burns and it was out quickly. However had one had long hair and been using a stick starter, leaning over the engine or tire,  you would have been in serious trouble. Just a precaution to always be careful.
Glad you're O.K., Steve! Ted
Did not know that had happened. Glad you guys are all okay. Fire extinguishers for gasoline and buckets of water for alcohol fires are something we should all be paying attention to.
Glad you guys are ok and got off with just a little singed hair.  Was it alcohol that caught fire?  And what do you suppose created the spark?
we had a carb leak on a LH K88 at Circleville couple years ago....alky fire,,nothing major,,,but sure gets your attention,,quickly...fire extinguisher close at all times,,,now....think the starter set it off..???

glad you guys are ok..

Not to take away from the seriousness of fire safety, but the incident does bring back memories. In our early days running alky, '61/'62, it became a standard stunt to sneak up behind one of our buddies in the pits and pour a little methanol on the asphalt around his shoes, then light it off. The resulting hot foot and dance was always a sight to see. I was the victim a couple of times, as I was also the perp a couple of times. Ted
The engine fired exactly as the alky had exited the muffler. Just like you had poured a pint on ground and the engine fired as more was coming out. My gatorade would have put it out, lol but I jumped to much.
