HI everyone, what is the difference between my mc5 and a mac49? Can I run with with the Mac 49 class or our they a lot quicker? If I can,t run with them then what class would I run in vka or the big one. They seem to be same size.
Mel, There are no classes at TBO -Fremont so run what ya brung.
Don t know exctly about VKA, but prolly HISTORIC .
mc49's are pretty fast
run historic and enjoy the laps

mc5 has removable head. mc49 does not. same exact specs otherwise.
the mc5's originally had saw pistons but few still are equiped that way. swapping in a mc6 piston is dead easy.
the only reason mc49's aren't run in historic is semetics.
they were produced after the cut off date for historic engines.
a stupid reason imho.
they are perfect for guys to put onto a historic kart and since many saws can be converted fto a mc49 plentiful in comparison to "real" historic motors.
i typically grouped them together in the historic classes at events i ran in the past. we had zero issues or complaints.
the mc49 class was originally created for an economical geezer and/or beginner racing class.
the idea was to get the mc49 motors in a seperate class for a slower race grid suitable for newbes and drivers who weren't comfortable going stupid fast anymore.
mc5's weren't allowed the theory being it was too "easy" to modify an mc5 to go faster.
of course like all good ideas in racing the mc49 class morphed into something else.
guys who "know better" figured out ways to make these "under-powered mc49 motors" tiny rockets.
i've seen mc49's capable of beating a poorly tuned mc91.
and any mod that can be done on a mc5 can be done on a mc49 except that it's harder.
in fact because of the mc49 motor design certain mc49 mods aren't possible for the mc5
anyway depends on promoter for being allowed to run in which class.
