Did max-torque make an inboard 2 shoe clutch in the earlier days? Not the ones Jim sells now.
Here's some  Mac clutches.....best to ask Jim D.   about this ?

I don't remember any from the 60's and early 70's.
Steve, I've never used one, but the 2-shoe Max-Torque clutch is still highly-regarded.  I don't know the time-frame.  I always assumed that they were available with an inboard sprocket, but Dick Teal would know.  I saved this photo from somewhere.

I recall Jim Donovan saying that the tooling had been scrapped before he acquired Max Torque.
I have some of them, and one of them is in use on my Wife's kart. No racing for her but she likes to drive. low engagement so it is perfect for her at Delmar. Also for beginners. I don't know why people do not remember them??

OK, sorry guys I didn't read the post well enough. They were outboards.

yes they did, I have one on display in my Mac engine collection. It is the only one I have ever seen!

i recall seeing inboardss but as steve said rare as hens teeth.
the early max torques are super light and don't engage hard like a disk clutch so they tend to be easy on the mcculloch crank stress issues.

The pictures in POST #2 are Max-Torque design I raced 1964 season. In 1963 the center metal hub was less beefy, using the same shoes.

Guilty also. Missed the inboard side. I never saw an inboard mounted clutch when racing 1963-1965. The POST #2 inner hub appeared, at least for me, seeing and using was 1964. This was an improved center hub design from 1963 that I used.
There were actually a few inboard two-shoe Max Torque clutches made with a pinion gear for those ungodly open gear drives that reared their ugly heads for a short time. I remember cringing at the whole concept. The engine was turned around on the kart so that it drove the axle gear the correct direction. Rolleyes  Ted
